Do you really want to know what I'm thinking about?

A new year

Normally people start off the new year with a bunch of resolutions that they have the best intentions of keeping but they end up not. I only have one; to get happy in my job. That means that I either get a new one, get promoted in my current one or learn to live with what I have.  I don’t know if I can live the way I am now without becoming really upset on a daily basis.  I want so much in my professional life and my current job is not providing that for me at the level I am now.

My personal life is awesome. I have a great kid and a wonderful wife. I have my health which is something I haven’t had in years, and I have improved my relationship with my parents and siblings.  I just need some professional satisfaction.

I know that I have a good job in terms of work life balance (as much as anyone can at the ‘executive level ) and my commute is very good at 30 minutes each way. One of the things my wife keeps tellng me is that most if not all of my friends would kill for that commute, as they all have greater than an hour each way and after a while it wears on you. I realize this but want to advance my career and that seems only possible if I change companies.

Let’s see what the year brings.

LinkedIn gets me in trouble

So I’m already having a terrible day at work (post for another time) and my boss holds me back after a meeting. HR have been on my LinkedIn or received emails on it and have complained to him about my posts. I posted a joke last week: “A hooker came up to me and said ‘I’ll do anything for $50’ I said ‘great, paint my house'”. This is offensive apparently. So I had to de-link my twitter from my LinkedIn, delete all my postings and post an apology. They didn’t make me do the last two, but I did it anyway. Unbelievable.
